B – Sides

Creative Direction, Scenic Design

Jay Z’s B-Sides was two hours of deep cuts from the rap legend’s catalog. A minimal stage set and shadowy blue lighting created the feeling of taking a long, dark ride through Jay-Z’s discography.

Process & Planning

The main set-piece for the show was a large, illuminated I-95 South road sign–an allusion to the storied drug corridor running through New York from Miami to the Canadian Border, and an homage to a period of rap that chronicled the hustle.
